Customs clearance delays may occur on these products. This can be costly and frustrating. Consult us or the appropriate country authority on these matters.

Useful tips and reminders

  • File a change of address form with the Post Office
  • Contact doctors and dentists for your family's medical records
  • Get copies of renewable prescriptions
  • Decide which items should be discarded or donated to charity (consider having a garage sale)
  • Notify your local utilities to have your service turned off after your departure
  • Contact utilities at your new home for connections
  • Decide which items you will pack, and request delivery of packing materials from Oakbridge
  • Make a list of names, addresses and numbers you will need or want to remember
  • Make arrangements to move your plants and pets
  • Make insurance arrangements to cover fire, theft and personal property at your new home, travel and goods
  • Dispose of flammables such as petrol, matches, cleaning fluids, bleach, pressurised or aerosol cans
  • Discontinue regular services such as newspaper, window cleaning, etc

1 week before move

  • Check bank and savings accounts are in the right place
  • Make arrangements to discontinue your local telephone service (your local telephone company can help you establish phone service at your new home)
  • Determine which items you're carrying with you
  • If doing your own packing, pack these items and set aside in a designated area
  • Have rugs and curtains cleaned (keep in protective bags)
  • Use up all your food supplies or give it away
  • Drain the fuel from lawnmowers and other power equipment
  • Make sure you have not packed your passport

1 day before move

  • Be on hand when the removal team arrives and throughout the loading process
  • Accompany the foreman during inventory. Check on the condition of your goods as they are loaded
  • Lock all windows and doors, and turn off all switches

Customer. Where do I start?
Oakbridge. You will be charged on the volume of goods you send.

We offer you the choice of packing the removal yourself or we can pack the whole removal for you, using professionally trained staff.

If you are packing the removal yourself you will need different types of packaging materials to help you with your move. You can purchase the packaging from us.

If you choose to let Oakbridge pack your move we offer a service at £25 per hour.

C. What size packing cases do I need?
O. It is best to use boxes all of the same size. Uniform boxes stow better using less space.

We supply flat packed cardboard boxes size 60x40x30 cms they are ideal so that not too much weight maybe put inside causing lifing problems and splitting.

Tea chests are no longer suitable for use. Many countries have restrictions on wood importations.

Once you know your quantities and exact quotation can be given. For estimation purposes we supply a form so you can list your items room by room. Alternatively, one of our staff will visit you to calculate your needs without obligation on your part.

C. What insurance do I need?
O. We can offer you transit cover through our underwriters whereby we issue insurance certificates based on your valuation of your goods. The cost is a percentage of your value depending on the country you are moving to. There is an excess of £100 on the policy. Where we pack your goods the underwriters deem is to be professionally packed covering breakage as well as total loss, but the for owner packed goods only total loss is covered, no breakage.

C. How do I arrange for an estimate?
O. Please call for further details, office hours are 8.30am - 6.00pm. Give your details to our Customer Service Agent, and we will get back to you promptly.

C. How much notice should I give for packing?
O. We recommend that you give a minimum of 2 weeks notice, although if this is not possible we can normally meet your requirements. Ideally, as soon as you know when you want to move you should confirm dates with us.

C. When do I pay?
O. Once we have collected your goods payment is due. Payable on receipt of our invoice, after the packing has been completed. Please note that cheques may require clearance before final release of the consignment.

C. Do you provide storage? Can I delay shipment?
O. Yes! Both at the point of origin and at destination. If you require storage we offer discounted rates for consignments we are shipping overseas. We are able to offer highly competitive rates to suit individual requirements. We normally recommend on cost to store in the UK prior to export.

C. Can I owner pack?
O. If you wish to pack yourself we can provide you with all the materials you need. You will save money. However, your insurance options are reduced. Breakage cover does not apply for owner packed shipments.
